App Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 30, 2026. This policy applies to the Human Renaissance app, version 1.0, for iPhone and Android.
What this policy covers
Human Renaissance makes a nutrition education and self-tracking app. This policy explains what the app does with your information. It covers the app only.
Our store and website have their own privacy policy at humanrenaissance.ca. If you shop with us, that policy covers your order. Nothing here changes it.
Two things are true about this app that shape everything below. There is no account, so you never give us a name, an email address, or a password. And there is no database on our side holding your logs, so there is nothing about you for us to look up, sell, or lose.
What stays on your phone
The app saves the following in your phone's own private app storage. It is not copied to us and we cannot see it:
- Your intake answers, including an optional first name, an optional age, how you eat, and the focus areas you picked.
- Your logs, including foods, water, Sea Buckthorn pouches, and how you rated the way you felt.
- The photo you take when you log a pouch. That photo is saved in the app's private folder on your phone and never leaves the device.
- Your progress through the intro.
Deleting the app deletes all of it. You can also erase it inside the app at any time. See "Your choices" below.
What leaves your phone, and why
Only a few things leave your phone, and each one happens only when you tap the button that does it. Everything travels over an encrypted HTTPS connection.
Photos, voice notes, and the text you write. When you photograph a meal, a nutrition label, or a grocery receipt, or when you describe your day by typing, recording a voice note, adding photos, or any mix of the three and then tap "Read my day," the app sends exactly what you attached to our processing endpoint. Our endpoint forwards it to Google's Gemini API to be read. The description comes back and is shown to you.
To be precise about what that means: your photo, recording, or text passes through our server. We do not store it and we do not log it. There is no database, no storage bucket, and no copy kept. It is held in memory only for the seconds the request takes, then discarded. Google processes it as our service provider under the Google Gemini API terms, and under those terms Google does not use this data to train its models.
Nothing we send carries your name, your logs, an account, an advertising identifier, or a device identifier. It carries only what you chose to submit.
The microphone is live only while the app is showing that it is recording. Nothing is recorded at any other time, and nothing is sent until you tap "Read my day."
Location, if you allow it. The app can show you where the sun is above you and today's UV and air quality. If you grant location access, the app uses your position while you have the app open. It is never collected in the background.
Your exact position is used on your phone, on your phone only, to work out the sun's position. For the UV and air-quality readings, the app rounds your coordinates to about two decimal places, which is roughly a one-kilometre area, and sends only those rounded coordinates to Open-Meteo, a free public weather and air-quality service. Nothing that identifies you goes with them. We keep no record of where you have been.
Barcodes. When you scan a packaged product, the app asks the public Open Food Facts database what that barcode is. Only the barcode number is sent. Nothing about you is included.
What we never do
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for money or anything of value.
- We do not use your information for advertising. The app contains no ads and no advertising software.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites. The app uses no analytics software, no crash-reporting software, and no advertising identifier.
- We do not build a profile of you.
- We do not read your health data from Apple Health, Health Connect, or any wearable. Version 1.0 does not ask for that access at all.
- We do not access your contacts or your calendar.
- We do not record ambient or background audio.
- We do not collect payment information. Version 1.0 is free and has no in-app purchases.
Permissions the app asks for
The app asks for each of these at the moment you first use the feature, not when you install it. The app works without any of them.
- Camera, so you can photograph food, a nutrition label, a receipt, a barcode, or your pouch.
- Photo library, only when you pick an existing photo to add. Only the photo you pick is read.
- Microphone, only for a voice note you start and stop yourself. You can type instead.
- Location, while you are using the app, only for the sun, UV, and air-quality screen.
That is the complete list. The app requests no other permission.
Data retention
We retain nothing on our servers. There is no account record, no log file of your submissions, and no stored copy of any photo, recording, or text you send for reading.
The data on your phone stays there until you erase it or delete the app. It is yours, and it is under your control, not ours.
Your choices
- You can turn any permission off at any time in your phone's settings. The app keeps working without it.
- You can erase everything the app has stored from inside the app, under Me, using "Replay intro."
- You can delete the app, which removes all of its data from your phone.
- There is no server-side account for us to delete, because there is no account.
Depending on where you live, you may have further privacy rights. Write to us and we will help.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13, or under the minimum age where you live. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Health disclaimer
The app is for general nutrition education and self-tracking. It is not a medical device. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and it does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
What the app shows you are estimates and general information, not measurements of your body. We built it around a simple idea, that paying attention to what you eat every day is better than waiting for something to go wrong. That is a habit, not a treatment. Always talk to a qualified healthcare professional about your health, and never delay or ignore their advice because of something you read in the app.
Legal basis and compliance
We intend to meet our obligations under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, known as PIPEDA, and under other privacy laws that apply where you live, including the GDPR in Europe and the CCPA in California.
Changes
We will update this policy as the app changes, and we will change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will point it out in the app.
